A Dhaka court on Sunday placed Jerika Tasneem Disha, 19, on a four-day remand for interrogation in a murder case over the death of former Air Force Flight Lieutenant K M Tahsif Souri.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain passed the order after a hearing on a seven-day remand application filed by Inspector Firoz Uddin of the Naval Police’s Tongi outpost.
Disha was produced before the court, where the investigating officer sought seven days’ remand for further interrogation and proper investigation into the murder.
State counsel Shamsuddoha Suman confirmed the development.
According to the remand petition, Disha was arrested around 2:00am on Sunday from her residence in Kafrul, Dhaka.
Investigators said analysis of digital data and CCTV footage showed that she had accompanied Tahsif to Nest Bar and Restaurant in Uttara on the night of October 27.
They had also visited CP Five Star Snacks several times.
The petition further said Disha was seen at a motorcycle garage with another accused, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, 23, who is currently on remand.
CCTV footage reportedly showed her spending time with Tahsif at restaurants and travelling with him by a motorcycle. His call records also showed several conversations between them before his death.
The investigating officer said Disha’s interrogation was necessary to establish the circumstances of the murder, identify other suspects, recover evidence and verify her statements against those of Dip.
Tahsif went missing after leaving home on the evening of October 27, reportedly following a call from Dip, a junior acquaintance.
His body was recovered from the River Turag near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan in the afternoon on October 28.
Tahsif’s father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case with Uttarkhan Police Station at about 1:05am on Friday, accusing unidentified persons.
According to the FIR, Tahsif left home at about 6:00pm on October 27 after receiving Dip’s call.
When his family contacted him late at night, he said he would return shortly.
At about 1:35am, a voice message sent from his phone to his mother via Messenger said, ‘I have set off; I am coming.’
However, he never returned. The following afternoon, River Police informed his father that his body had been recovered from the River Turag.
After an initial post-mortem examination at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, the body was handed over to the family on October 29.
Tahsif was buried in Uttara Sector 12 that afternoon.
